This film is all about the Cree and Chippewa Indians in Northern Manitoba, Canada. They are the Caribou hunters. The entire Cree Culture revolves around this animal. The caribou is the main source of food in the north along with other small animals on their trap lines. It shows the survival skills of living off the land and the actual caribou hunt. The hunters go on foot with a team of dogs traveling through the stormy and cold weather conditions of winter. Once they locate the caribou on a successful hunt they move their family campsite with the caribou’s path. The hunters show respect towards the animals by using all of the animal parts. The meat is used for food and it’s hide for sewing traditional arts and crafts. (mittens, moccasins…etc.). There is a Hudson Bay trading post called Brochet incorporated May 1870 where they trade their furs for supplies such as flour, salt, gun animation , tea bags and tobacco. SHOW CLIP 5:32-8:00

The non native hunters hunt mainly for sport and they consider their kills as trophies. In this video you see them hunt during the fall or spring. They have different methods of hunting. They use archery, bows and sometimes their rifles.The caribou hunt has become a hunt for trophy and not for survival.

Quebec is home to over 750,000 caribou distributed from the Leaf River herd and the George River herd. these caribou move in columns in constant circular migration that takes them across Quebec high Artic and Labrador. This is the time hunters from the south come and hunt the caribou.
